This year has been surprising in the fact that nothing very surprising has happened so far in non-conference play. Namely, we have yet to see an attention-grabbing upset win by a mid-major (Xavier over Memphis does not count). We saw Duke and UCLA house Southern Illinois in Madison Square Garden, although one couldn’t reasonably expect them to upset either. St. Joseph’s fell to Texas at the Maui Invitational. A big upset early in the year propels a mid-major into the national spotlight and keeps them in the bubble discussion all year. The question now becomes – when will we see that notable upset? Here are some games to keep an eye on this week:
Tennessee vs. Siena, 11/25
UNC-Wilmington vs. Texas A & M, 11/25
Belmont @ Pittsburgh, 11/26
UAB @ Oklahoma, 11/26
Stetson @ Miami (FL), 11/29
Dayton @ Marquette, 11/29
