I have been counting down the days until the NCAA releases its RPI rankings, to try and get a feel for what teams will be in the bubble mix for the rest of the season.  One particular re-creation of the RPI occurs at RealTimeRPI.com, and it looks like the current rankings have something everyone can both like and dislike.  This RPI, if correct, is probably too wacky to take seriously.  There is simply too much fluctuation in the early rankings to have a team’s RPI matter much.

These teams got an early dose of good news on the Bubble front:

Butler - # 4

Northwestern - # 7

UAB - # 18

Evansville - # 22

Western Kentucky - # 27

Illinois-Chicago - # 45

The CAA isn’t showing too badly, but they should have done better in non-conference play:

Hofstra - # 50

VCU - # 61

George Mason - # 64

How about a couple for the What the Hell? File:

Xavier - # 2

Purdue - # 69

Hey, how about those teams we pegged as overrated?  How did they stack up?

UCLA - # 74

Notre Dame - # 76

Kansas - # 109

Our eyes match the RPI’s thus far.  Expect big changes for most of these teams, but don’t believe the hype.
