Here we go again. The NCAA Selection Committee has outdone itself with this year's crapfest. Arizona and Maryland in the tournament over Creighton? Absoultely ridiculous. Creighton went 9-5 vs. the top-100 and 2-2 vs. the top-50, better than both Arizona and Maryland. Maryland and Arizona combined to win FOUR total road games this season. Arizona's were at Oregon State and Oregon, and Maryland's were against Georgia Tech and NC State. Creighton went 8-4 in road games this season, including beating MVC champion Northern Iowa on the road. Creighton won eleven of their final twelve games, while Maryland and Arizona both limped to 6-6 finishes. RPI? Creighton was more than 12 spots ahead of both teams.
But that does leave one BS excuse for the committee to include Arizona and Maryland - marquee wins. Never mind that Creighton beat the best team it played (Dayton), but how does winning four or five of your thirteen tries at elite teams get you into the tournament? Creighton will never get that many shots against top teams, mostly because teams like Maryland would never schedule them in a million years. They spend all season ducking dangerous "low-caliber" teams like Creighton, but the cowardly teams like Maryland still get rewarded with at-large berths. Why even follow this crap when it happens every year? This year was a shot across the bow of mid-majors - the BCS conferences have declared war on everyone outside of their inner circle. They don't stand a chance.
