The Gavinski Award is a weekly award given to the team with the worst performance in college basketball over the past seven days.  It is presented in honor of J.P. Gavinski, the most useless player in Division 1 basketball.

Virginia Tech (other than Malcolm Delaney)

Virginia Tech lost to Temple Friday night 61-50, which is not bad if you just glance at the score.  Temple is a very good team.  The bad part comes when you find out that Malcolm Delaney scored 32 of Virginia Tech’s 50 points.  You read that correctly.  In what might be the worst performance by four basketball players this season, Tech’s “supporting cast” of Terrell Bell, Dorenzo Hudson, Erick Greene and J.T. Thompson combined to go 2-22 from the field.  Victor Davila and Jeff Allen’s Corpse each scored six points, which tied for second on the team.  Nobody else scored more than two.  Even worse, Delaney had just 4 points in the first half, and had to score 28 of his team’s 33 second half points, conceivably having the same look on his face that Jay Cutler has when his receivers run the wrong route and he gets sacked on a three step drop.  Thanks guys!
