Like many people last night, I tried to watch the most interesting ACC-Big Ten Challenge game that I could.  After watching parts of Minnesota-Miami and Boston College-Michigan, I flipped back to ESPN Uno to catch the Clemson score – 51-28 Tigers, 2nd half.  Game over, right?  Foolishly, that is exactly what I thought, momentarily forgetting Clemson’s history of bizarre losses.  Like an idiot, I decided to alternate between the BC-Michigan and Minnesota-Miami contests.  As those games wound down, I thought, “why not check to see how badly Clemson is beating Illinois?”  I turned the channel only to see the Illinois bench erupt after taking the lead, Littlejohn Coliseum dead silent and the Clemson players all but lying down on the court in submission.  Needless to say, Illinois eventually finished off the epic comeback.  Clemson is so maddeningly unpredictable that not only can they fail to show up in NCAA Tournament games they should win easily (vs. Villanova in ’08 and Michigan in ’09), they can also trick you into not watching what will probably be one of the best games of the year.  As a word of warning – if you’re thinking of taking Clemson in your NCAA bracket to win in the first round, or if you are about to pull the trigger on a Clemson bet – don’t do it.  They will burn you.
