The Gavinski Award is a weekly award given to the team with the worst performance in college basketball over the past seven days.  It is presented in honor of J.P. Gavinski, the most useless player in Division 1 basketball.

 Marist

When you peruse the bottom of the RPI ratings, you generally don't expect to see teams from good conferences.  Marist now sits at 346th in the RPI, essentially making them the second-worst college basketball team in the country.  If we could see one of those ultra-cool all division ratings that include DII, DIII and NAIA teams, we might see Marist in the 1,000 range.  The rating is bad enough, as every loss on the schedule is to 100+ RPI teams, but Marist is getting the 2009 Gavinski for the worst performance of the year - a 75-38 pasting at the hands of the 2-10 Hartford Hawks.  Losing by 37 to the 337th best team in the country is inexcusable for a good intramural team, let alone a team from the MAAC.  Jared Jordan - where art thou?
