We have decided to break down our tourney bubble season preview into 3 parts.
We also decided to wait a few games into the season to get a feel for where teams are really at so we can write as accurate a preview as possible. Unlike ESPN, we actually watch other leagues outside of the BCS so we can get an accurate represenation of the college basketball landscape.
Now with that being said, Part 1 of our preview is easy enough, picking the national champion.
It's Duke. (Way to go out on a limb right?) Sorry, Coach K will not let this team fail, but it's not like he really has much choice. When you bring guys like Nolan Smith and Andre Dawkins off the bench to replace guys like Kyrie Irving and Seth Curry, you could beat a bad NBA team. This one isn't even close, they may not lose a game all season. With Singler and the Plumlee brothers being basically a wash with the best frontcourts in the country, the backcourt is so far superior to any other backcourt in the country, we can go ahead and call this fight over.
Trust us, it isn't easy for us to type these words. Tyler and I used to despise Duke, hate them with a passion like any rational college basketball fan would. But over the years, after having watched scumbags like Pitino, Calhoun, Sampson and Calipari among others try to do anything they could to get their team to the top, you have to begrudgingly ackowledge the fact that Coach K is a hell of a coach who has always kept his nose clean and for that you have to respect him.
We are not Duke fans in the least and would love for this "preview" to blow up in our face, but let's face it, it isn't going to happen. Duke will blow out Michigan State in the ACC/Big 10 challenge and then the world will see what we already know, Duke wins the National Championship going away this season, at the most dropping 2 or 3 ACC games along the way.
The only good news is half the team could end up bolting for the NBA next year so the domination won't last long, but this year is pretty much a done deal.
Parts 2 and 3 of our season preview will come tomorrow and the day after, everyone fighting for second place. I will review the Mid-majors who will make some noise in this years NCAA tourney and Tyler will preview the BCS sleepers who will try and stick it to the little guys.
Enjoy.
